From that time forth began Jesus to show his disciples, how that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from you, Lord: this shall not happen to you. But he turned, and said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: you are an offense to me: for you savour not the things that be of God, but those that be of men..
Self Denial required to follow Jesus Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever will save his life shall lose it: and whoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Truly I say to you, There are some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his Kingdom. ... Matthew 16:13-28
And after six days Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John, and led them up unto an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his clothing became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no bleach on earth can whiten them. And there appeared unto them Elijah with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. For he did not know what to say; for they were very afraid. .. Mark 9:2-16 While he yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; listen to him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were very afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and don't be afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elijah must come first ? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elijah truly shall come first, and restore all things. But I say to you, That Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done to him whatever they pleased. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptist ...Matt. 17:1-13
The Mount of TransfigurationAnd when he came down off the mount to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them. And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him greeted him. And he asked the scribes, What are you discussing with them? And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto you my son, which has a dumb spirit; And wherever he takes him, he tears him: and he foams, and grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid and I spoke to your disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. He answered him, and said, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear you? bring him to me.
And they brought him to him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tore him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. And he asked his father, How long has he had this? And he said, From childhood. And often it has cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if you can do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. Jesus said to him, If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help my unbelief. When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying to him, You dumb and deaf spirit, I charge you, come out of him, and enter no more into him. And the spirit cried, and convulsing him came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why couldn't we cast him out? And he said to them, This kind only comes out by prayer and fasting...... Mark 9:14-29
Jesus foretells His death and resurrection And while they stayed in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. But they did not understood this saying, and it was hid from them, so that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him about that saying. . Matt 17:22-23a... Luke 9:43b-45
John's Interruption And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbade him, because he did not follow us. And Jesus said to him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.... Luke 9:49-50
The Greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven are Servants At the same time came the disciples to Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child to him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Truly I say to you, Except you are converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever shall receive one such little child in my name receives me. And he sat down, and called the twelve, and said to them, If any man desire to be first, the same must be last of all, and servant of all. Matt 18:1-5 , Mark 9:35
Peter and the Temple TaxAnd when they came to Capernaum, the Temple Tax Collectors came to Peter, and said, Does not your master pay tribute? He said, Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What do you think Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? Peter said to him, Of strangers. Jesus said to him, Then are the children free. Nevertheless, lest we should offend them, go down to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first comes up; and when you have opened his mouth, you shall find a piece of money: that take, and give to them for me and you.. Matthew 17:24-27
.Don't cause young children or believers to sinAnd whoever offends one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. (Pornographers Beware!) And if your hand offend you, cut it off: it is better for you to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into Hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where the worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. And if your foot offend you, cut it off: it is better for you to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into Hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where the worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. And if your eye offend you, pluck it out: it is better for you to enter into the Kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into Hell fire: Where the worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. Salt is good: but if the salt has lost his saltiness, how can you season with it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another... Take heed that you despise not one of these little ones; for I say to you, That in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father which is in Heaven. For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. ... Mark 9:42-50. Matthew 18:10-11, 14
Going after Lost sinnersWhat man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say to you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repents, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. .... Luke 15:4-7
How to deal with a Church person who sins against youMoreover if your brother shall trespass against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone: if he shall hear you, you have gained your brother. But if he will not hear you, then take with you one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it to the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto you as a heathen man and a publican. Truly I say to you, Whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus said to him, I say not to you, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Therefore is the Kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain King, which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But inasmuch as he had not to pay, his Lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay you all. Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, which owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that you owe. And his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay you all. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told their Lord all that was done.
