Dear Felix ....Babylon is located in southern Iraq on the plains of Shinar,(Genesis 10:10) where people migrated to after the Flood and built the Tower of Babel. It was the capital of Babylonia which fell to the Persian King, Cyrus the Great on October 29 539 B.C. The main entrance was the Ishtar gate which can be visited today and underneath King Nebuchadnezzar's name Saddam Husseein has his name inscribed. Babylon is a literal city. There is also a second Babylon caled Mystery (religious) Babylon (Revelation 17:5) a cult started by Nimrod and his queen, Semiramis, which spread among all the nations. The objects of worship were the Supreme Father, the Queen of Heaven and her Son.... Julius Caesar became the Head of the Roman branch in 63 B.C. and other Roman Emperors held this position until 378 A.D. when Babylonianism and Christianity became one under Demasus, the Bishop of Rome. After the merger many of the rituals of Babylon were introduced into the Roman Christian Church such as veneration of statues, private confessions, penances, relics, Easter, Lady Day, Lent etc. etc. Over 200 million people were martyred in the past because they would not conform to the new organized religion.... hope this helps

B .... I am interested in Nimrod. Was he a man of God? I know he was the architect of the Tower of Babel. ...Dear Linda, ... Nimrod, from the Hebrew "marad" or "we will rebel," was the son of Cush and a mighty hunter before the Lord - Genesis 10:9. According to Josephus, the Historian, he was a Giant who hunted men and oppressed them. Nimrod established the first Kingdom in Babylon and later extended it to Assyria. He also established the first Universal false religion "before the Lord" or openly in the presence of God and defied God to send another Flood. Josephus also said that Nimrod persuaded men to ascribe their happiness to him, not God. The tower of Babel, discovered in 1876, was 300 feet high and 300 feet square with 8 stories or platforms. The tower was finished but the city was not. ... An ancient Babylonian tablet reads "The buiding of this illustrious tower offended the gods and they threw down what was built. They scattered them abroad and made strange their speech" |

Dear Confused, ... No, According to the book "The Two Babylons" used by Central Bible College, this Catholic Bishop's hat is a carryover from the ancient worship of Dagon, the Fish god, worshipped by the Phillistines. (Palestinians) Note how the hat is shaped like a fish head with an open mouth.... hope this helps
B .... What are the purposes/uses of a Bible? What is the meaning of a Bible?
Dear Diona,... Abraham Lincoln said "The
Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man, all the good from
the Savior of the world is communicated through this Book"..... The
Bible was written by Holy Men of God as God instructed them. The
first book, Genesis, begins with the fact that there is One God and
that He is the Creator of the universe. It tells the story of how
Adam (the Father of all mankind) disobeys God and passes from the
state of innocence to the (fallen) state of sin. In Genesis 3:15 we
have the first promise of a Redeemer who is to be the Savior of
fallen mankind and will "bruise the serpent's (Satan's) head" and
restore us to God. The
Redeemer's bloodline is carried forward from Seth, (the son of Adam
and Eve), to Judah, the Tribe from
which the Redeemer, Jesus, was to come. The Gospel of John (where I
suggest you begin) details Jesus coming to earth as the promised
Redeemer.
B
I
would like a list of all the books in the
Bible,
the new and old testament. The names in the new testament are more
important, if possible. thanx
Dear Miriam, Go
to www.wcie.net/bible.studies.htm
.. "retrieve Bible verses" and scroll down from Genesis .The New
Testament starts at Matthew ... hope this helps
It has been suggested to me that the Old
Testament is written for a tribe, ethnic group, or nation, while the
New Testament is written for individuals and churches. Because of
this, the New testament can be much more demanding than can the
Hebrew Bible. Because I am unfamilier with the New Testament (as I am
traditionally Jewish), does this statement have merit?
Thanks!
Dear Jack, The Old Testament was written in
Hebrew and is the story of man's origin, his fall and the Promise of
a Messiah who would redeem man from his fallen state. The New
Testament is the story of the coming of that Messiah. It was written
in Greek because this was the common everyday language in Israel
after Alexander the Great conquered the then known world. Both
Testaments were written by devout Hebrews. There were no Gentile
believers (non-jews) for at least 10 years after the coming of the
Messiah. While the typical "Christian" does not realize it, the word
christian was not the last name of Jesus but rather means a believer
in the Messiah or in Jesus the Christ. ... "Christ" meaning the
Messiah. The word "church" is also used in both Testaments to refer
to a group of those who believe and follow God. In truth the New
Testament was written for the Hebrew FIRST and secondarily for the
Greek or Gentiles. During the Millennium, the whole world will be
ruled by a Jewish Messiah on the throne in Jerusalem.and the entire
nation of Israel will weep when they look on Him who they have
pierced ( crucified ) and accept Him. Present day believers in Jesus
the Messiah are called "Messianic" believers or "completed Jews"
B
.....HOW
MANY BOOKS AND VERSES ARE IN THE NEW AND OLD TESTAMENT?
2 . What is the shortest verse in
the
Bible?
Dear Laura and Brit, ... Wycliffe
began the first translation of the English Bible which was finished
by John Purvey in1388 A.D.
In 1228 A.D., the Bible was divided into chapters
by Stephen Langton.
In 1448 A.D., the Old Testament was divided into
verses by R. Nathan.
In 1551 A.D., the New Testament was divided into
verses by Robert Stephanus.
There are 31,173 verses in the Bible...( 23,214 in the O.T. 7,959 in the N.T.) There are 27 Books, 260 chapters, 181,253 words and 288 pages (relative size) in the New Testament. There are 39 Books, 929 chapters, 593,493 words and 993 pages (relative size) in the Old Testament. The largest book is Psalms, The shortest book is 3 John. The longest chapter is Psalm 119 ... .The shortest chapter is Psalm 117 ... The longest verse is Esther 8:9. The shortest verse is John 11:35. ..The.Center Chapter of the entire Bible is Psalms 118... There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118 ... There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118 ...Psalms 118:8 is the center verse in the Bible.."It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."The name "Jesus" occurs 770 times in the N.T and the title "the Messiah" 300 times.
The common evangelical view of the
development of the New Testament canon sees the canon as having
arisen gradually through usage. The
earliest known recognition of the 27 books of the New Testament as
alone canonical, to which nothing is to be added and from which
nothing is to be subtracted, is the list preserved by Athanasius'
festal letter (A.D. 367). The Synod of Hippo (A.D. 393) and the Third
Synod of Carthage (A.D. 397) duly acquiesced, and fixed the Latin
canon (probably under the influence of Augustine.).
B
... Dear Sir, My question is about
"BORN
AGAIN" misquoted by bible teachers, can
you please explain the word to me?
Dear Timothy, In St. John chapter 3 Jesus told Nicodemus (twice) You must be "BORN AGAIN". He compared this second Spiritual birth to the Wind which can be experienced but not seen and He was shocked that Nicodemus, who was a Leader of the Church, did not know what he (Jesus) was talking about......... hope this helps.
Dear Rachel, I presume that you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. If so, do not deny this. I would suggast that you read the Bible , pray daily and ask the Lord to guide you to a local Church where you can have fellowship with other believers. Let the Light of Jesus shine through you and if you have opportunity share your belief with others at the proper time whenever God opens the door. As far as laughing at you, people laughed Jesus to scorn so I would not get upset over it. Look at it this way - You are going to Heaven - try to take as many with you as you can....... If you are over 12 years old we have an excellent Bible course at www.wcie.net/bible.av.htm ......hope this helps.
I will tell all my friends tomorrow on my
sixteenth birthday what you have told me - it has helped a lot,
thanks, Rachel
Hi!... How can a young person decide what way is the right one. I'm
quite confused when reading about all these different Christian
movements (Catholics, Jehovah Witnesses and others) with sometimes
radically different interpretation of the Word. Any advice would be
appreciated.
Davor, .go to www.wcie.net/bible.studies.htm/sg48.htm
and do what it says. then go to www.wcie.net/bible.av.htm
and take our Bible course on line. It's a little work but you need to
do it to get your answer. The most accurate Bible is the King James
(or RSV.) ... Start to read the Gospel of John in your daily
devotions. You need to ask Jesus to show you which Church to attend.
You should be helped by most of the material on our site. Some
believe young people need a special type of Bible teaching. This is
not true!....
Thanks for the swift response! I'll keep
in touch.

A group of young adults here in Kansas
City is trying to get a Bible Study going and I would like to get a
few ideas on how to conduct a class and some ideas of studies. Thank
you so much. The age group 20 to 35 years old.
Dear Cathy, Try our interactive EZ Bible study at www.wcie.net/biblestudy. Of course everyone should have a Bible. You can print out the page , read the texts at the top then check off the answers. You can also email one to us for checking but the answers are easily found in reading the assigned scriptures. For a real treat go to our main page at www.biblestudent.com and print out one or more of our studies like "the Tabernacle symbolizes" or "Pssover" and go over each scripture in detail .
Dear Jordan, The role of Baptism in the Old Testament is covered
in detail at www.wcie.net/bible.studies.htm/sg63.htm
... Jesus told John the Baptist that it was becoming
of them to fulfill all Righteousness in Matthew 3 .... hope this
helps
Dear Shan, ... No, In Acts many Jews had been baptized with John's baptism - now they were to recognize Jesus as their Messiah. The correct procedure was given by Jesus himself authorizing us to baptize in the name of and with the authority of all three persons of the Trinity. Those who believe that "Jesus only" is God require you to be baptized according to their doctrine which clearly contradicts the teaching of Jesus Himself.

B... I want to approach the life of Barnabas, or a quality of his life, in a fresh way. I have the biblical information that is commonly known of him. My question is, do you know of any rescource, or do you have any information, a sermon, article, etc. that approaches my subject from a fresh vantage point? Thank you, Dear Max, .. Barnabas was a noted member of the early Jerusalem church and an active missionary to the Gemtiles. His original name was "Joseph" or "Joses" (Acts-4:36). He was a Levite born in Cyprus. John Mark of Jerusalem was his cousin (Col-4:10). He showed his generous nature by selling a field (on Cyprus?) for the benefit of the poor (Acts 4:37). Luke calls him "a son of encouragement". He courageously befriended the suspected Saul (Acts 9:26-27). Convinced by the reality of Saul's conversion he sponsored him and secured his acceptance by the church in Jerusalem. |

Tradition has made Barnabas one of the seventy sent out by Jesus and says that he died as a martyr on Cyprus.
Dear Anisa, There is just one Bible which consists of God's old agreement or Old testamemt and God's New testament written in the Blood of Jesus. see "The real Jesus the Messiah " at www.wcie.net/bible.studies.htm/therealjesus.htm for the Priestly and Kingly connections.... hope this helps,
Dear Ellen, After Malachi, the last book of the Old Testament, began the 450 years called the "Period of Silence". Alexander the Great, a pupil of Aristotle, the great Philosopher, became the Ruler of Greece, Asia, Egypt and Syria. During his thirteen year reign he gave the world a universal language of culture. When the Roman Empire was established under Augustus Caesar the world was at peace and the long awaited "Seed of the woman" promised in the garden of Eden was born. ... hope this helps
Dear Donna,.... Moses married an Ethiopian (Hebrew = Kuyshiy or
descendant of Cush) woman ( Zipporah the Midianite was a descendant
of Abraham's marriage to Keturah ) Numbers 12:1 . She was not black
because Biblical Ethiopia is Nubia. Modern Ethiopia is called
Abyssinia. The Abyssinians hold that the Queen of Sheba established
the Jewish religion in her homeland after her visit to Solomon.
Philip the Evangelist reached out to an Ethiopian black man of the
African world in Acts 8:27-39 setting the stage for the Christian
church in modern Ethiopia. .... hope this helps
Thank you so much, I'm studying from an
African Heritage Bible, and it's just that I need some guidance, in
some areas.
B
... In the Old Testament the Lord
gave a donkey the power of speech, who owned the donkey?
Dear
Richard,
Balaam, a greedy Magician from
Mesopotamia who after his attempts to curse Israel failed, conceived
a contemptible plan to deliberately lead the people of God into sin
in order to remove God's blessing and bring about their downfall.
.... 2Pet 2:15, Rev. 2:14 .... hope this helps
Thank you for your assistance, it is
very much appreciated.
B
... In the Book of Samuel, 2:12,
"Now the sons of Eli were sons of
Belial;
they knew not the Lord" What does this mean, if Eli was a priest, how
could his sons not know of the Lord? Who is Belial?
Dear Robin, "sons of Belial" means good for
nothing - worthless. If someone's parents know and obey the Lord, the
children must also come to a personal knowledge and obedience to Him
.It is not automatic.... Read and study Matthew 7:15 - 27 ....
Many (v22) Preachers, Priests, Ministers and other professing
Christians who do not produce good fruit in their personal lives will
be cut down and thrown into the fire.

... Hello! I have been recently
informed that the NIV and the ASV of the
Bible
leave out some (a lot apparently)
verses. And that they have reworded a lot of verses in comparision to
the KJV. I was wondering why and if there are so many different
versions how can anyone really be sure any more about the truth? I am
a Lutheran and my church uses the NIV but I am now thinkng that maybe
this is not the same bible that Martin Luther tried so hard to
protect and make accessible and readable to the the general
public.
Dear Karen, All of these recent new versions were designed to make the authors rich. King James had a different motive, Many new versions are what I refer to as "Dick and Jane" bibles and are useful to new readers. But just as you would not use a book on learning your ABCs to probe space travel, I would use the King James for any serious study of God's word. Avoid any arguement or debates over this and respect your Pastor!. I did read them all as a new Christian but as I have gotten older and wiser I want the real thing, the whole enchilada! See www.wcie.net/bible.studies.htm/kingjames.htm for a history of the Bible up to the King James
I am kinda confused on all the different
versions and why somethings appear in some version and not others,.

B
... Do you have any info on "Blood
Covenant" and any images or pictures?
Dear Jeanne,
...The Blood of the
Covenant was sprinkled on the Altar and
the people to remind them of the words of the Ten Commandments in
Exodus 24:8 .... When God looked at the Ark of the Covenant, He did
not see the Ten Commandments which the people had broken. He saw the
Blood of the Covenant sprinkled on the Lid or Mercy Seat..... Later
in Hebrews 13:20 we are told the Blood of Jesus Christ has now become
the Blood of the Everlasting Covenant. See "The Tabernacle
Symbolized" at www.wcie.net/bible.studies.htm/sg18.htm
for a detailed explanation.
B
.... what version of the bible talks
of the Berachiah
valley? I am new to things, and kinda
trying to figure some things out. I appreciate any help that you can
give me on my question.
Dear Freddie, .... King (of Judah)
Jehoshophat's prayer is located in II Chronicles 20:5. The answer
from the Lord was that Judah would not have to fight in this
valley which is located in the Judean wilderness west of Tekoa or
modern Wadi Bereikut. Judah then named this valley of Berachiah or
"Valley of Blessing "
B
....
Who was
Baal
in the Old Testament?
Dear Jeri, .... Baal-Shemaim (lord of
heaven) was the sun god of Phenicia and the Canaanite god of rain and
fertility. He was the equivalent of the greek god, Zeus, and was
worshipped by the Jews until the destruction of Solomon's Temple and
the carrying
away into Babylon in 587 B.C.
B
...
what was Balak's purpose in taking
Balaam
to three diferent places to curse the
people of Israel?
Dear Harold, ... Balak, the Arab leader, would not give up easily because there was so much at stake. The 600 mile journey of Israel between Pethor and Moab took 20 days or more. On the third try Balak took the Prophet up the summit to the main temple of Baal-Peor and Balaam finally satisfied his desire for riches and honor.... In chapter 25 the Israelites began to have sex orgies with the prostitutes of Baal and commited adultery and idolatry. The women were the most beautiful women of Midian and Moab and could be compared to Playboy women. So with a combination of sex, money and prestige, Balak accomplished his goals of bringing Israel into sexual perversion and in the process also brought about the downfall of the man of God.
