A personal message from Huldah Buntain

Once again it is my happy privilege to thank all of our partners for there faithful donations.  It is only because of your giving that we have been able to continue helping so many children, and also see tremendous growth in all of our Calcutta Ministries.

In the picture you will see that I am holding the Indian flag, which was the day of the conclusion of the Vision for Missions Conference in Ludenscheid Germany.  Hundreds of young people gathered that week and it was most encouraging to see so many dedicate their lives for Christian service.

It was in Ludenscheid, where Mark spoke at a large conference shortly

before his death, and from that conference many young people are missionaries in various countries today..

Huldah In India

Before going to Germany I was in India and with our national leaders traveled over 1200 miles to many remote villages dedicating two or three Churches and schools each day. In one of the areas where there had been some squirmishes the government sent four Commandos to escort me for the dedication of one of our large village schools.  THIS WAS AN EXCITING FIRST FOR ME!!

Huldah in Germany

It is always a joy to be once again with Pastor Daniel Mueller in his great church in Karlsruhe, Germany, and speak to his most responsive congregation.  Karlsruhe is the headquarters for our Calcutta Mercy Ministries in Germany. From Germany I went to Australia, where I had the privilege of ministering in churches in Sydney as well as Melbourne.  It was also a thrilling experience to be a guest at the Hillsong Conference and to see 20,000 people gather for four days in the large stadium in Sydney.

Calcutta Mercy Ministries Team in Indianpolis

It was such a joy to meet so many of our partners at the Calcutta Mercy Ministries booth at the Assemblies of God General Council in Indianapolis, and be able to thank them personally for their continued support for all of our ministries.I am grateful that God continues to help us daily to minister to thousands of children in our schools, and daily feeding programs. The hospital also continues to touch the lives of hundreds of sick and suffering each day.

With love and grateful thanks,

Huldah Buntain

Huldah Buntain's India Report

March 2007

Dear Friends,

Mom (Huldah Buntain) returned in February and it is a joy to be able to write our first joint newsletter in 2007 and to once again thank you for your faithful support and donations. It was wonderful for Mom to see the growth of the ministries in Calcutta as well as in our regional areas and in places where she visited in December, January and February 2007.  Please continue to keep us in your prayers.

Jim, Bonnie and Huldah at the Joka Boy's Home dedication

On Saturday, January 27th, our new Boys Home, recently constructed, was dedicated. We have had this Home in a building God provided for us a number of years ago. However, space was limited, so with a gift given for a Children's Home, and other donations, this large building with wonderful facilties was constructed.  Over the years so many boys in unfortunate conditions have been raised in our Boys Home and are educated and well placed today. A good number are also working for the Mission and some are pastors. Lives retrieved from the streets of Calcutta are given a future because of our Compassionate Ministries.

 Blind Children

It is always a joy for me to take visitors to our Blind School/Home, where we now have 107 children and also a joy to show them the children who have had surgery in our hospital and now have been helped to see. As a result, special classes are now being held for these boys and girls.

New Hospital Chapel Report from Bill and Brenda Marocco

"The Marocco family would like to express our deep appreciation for the thoughtful planning by the leadership of Calcutta Mercy Ministries that went into the building of this wonderful chapel. We were blessed by the worship that took place during the chapel dedication and the words spoken emphasizing the importance of seeds planted many years ago coming to fruition. We believe many lives will be touched and comforted within this beautiful chapel as it serves as an outreach ministry of Mercy Hospital and a testament to God's work in the city of Calcutta. It was such a joy for us to see and experience the width and breadth of the work being accomplished there."

(Dan Marocco and his family were missionaries to Calcutta before the Buntain's arrived there in 1954. It was a joy to have Dan's son Bill visit Calcutta in January 2007 along with his wife Brenda and son Peter.)

Robert and Rheatte's Message

Dear Friends,

In every person's life come opportunities to make a difference. God has opened a new door through Calcutta Mercy Ministries for Rheatte and me to bring a little hope to the lives of those that have so little. Thank you for partnering with us to make dreams come true.

 Cleft Palate

In the next 12 months the hospital plans to carry out 1,000 free cleft surgeries.

Message from Dr. Harlan Muntz from Primary Children's Hospital, Salt Lake City, UT:

Calcutta is a bustling city. The "City of Hope" is often a place of despair to those suffering from disease and deformity. Calcutta Mercy Hospital is a place of hope for the city. The enormity of the task could cause us to give up but at Calcutta Mercy Hospital, loving care is provided to each patient, suffering is reduced and the mission is accomplished one soul at a time.

I have been privileged to be a small part of the care at this excellent hospital. Because of the lack of infrastructure to care for children with cleft lip and palate deformity in the Calcutta area, Calcutta Mercy Hospital has been working to establish a Center of Excellence for Cleft Care. Focusing on the development of a local team of experts, we have Cleft Camps where children without hope have been able to get back their lives. Instead of hiding because of facial deformity, they now have a chance to be "normal". The care is not just for the child, the staff also ministers to the heart needs of the families as well.

From administration, nursing services, physicians and support staff, there is a heart to serve. There is a delight in giving. There is always a desire to improve the care, increase the quality, and expand the available technology. The mission is to help one individual patient at a time.

The New Physiotheraphy Center

"We are so thankful that God has allowed us to be a part of the Buntain Ministry for the past 28 years. They have blessed our family in so many ways. We love the people of India and are humbled to have been led of God to help with the new Physiotherapy Unit. Our prayer is that many people will not only receive physical help for their bodies, but realize the love of Jesus for their souls." - Ernie and Sherry Sprague, Calcutta Mercy Ministries Donor.

Letter From Huldah Buntain

I left for Calcutta after Christmas and have been busy traveling since my arrival. I was joined by my daughter Bonnie, son-in-law Jim and my grandson Mark. Each year we have Pastor's Conferences in Calcutta as well as in the other states where we have ministries. It was so encouraging to see the growth of all our churches and the large number of pastors that attended and were blessed by Rev. Chuck Price from Canada's ministry.

Following the Conference I traveled with our Himalayan Mountain leaders 700 miles over the mountains to visit our projects from Darjeeling to Gangtok Sikkim and as far as Jaegaon which is on the border of the country of Bhutan, where we have many churches and schools.

I have just come from being in the state of Orissa where our Pastors and Christians have gone through great persecution in so many village areas. I talked to some of our Orissa Leaders who after hearing about these incidents, immediately went to these places where they found a number of our house churches burned, pastors beaten and their homes destroyed.  Many pastors had to flee with their families for their lives. Thank God the trouble has now subsided, but it is so sad that thousands of Christians are left homeless, having lost everything.

Our hospital still continues to be such a source of blessing to hundreds each day. I never fail to thank God as I watch the sick and suffering come daily for medical treatment.  What a tremendous arm of evangelism!

Thank you so much for your love and support. The poverty and needs are so great but with your wonderful financial help we are making a difference. May God reward and bless you for your faithful donations is constantly my prayer.

Love and Grateful Thanks,

Huldah Buntain
