The country must import a high proportion of its food, mainly from New Zealand. Tourism is the primary source of hard currency earnings Clothing: To avoid embarrassing and offending the Tongans, visitors should dress modestly in town, keeping brief clothing for the beaches and resorts. If in doubt about what is acceptable, ask your hotelier or staff - or just observe the locals. Tongans usually dress in modest Western clothes, but add the traditional touch with a narrow length of mat wrapped around their waist. Women usually wear a 'sulu' skirt under their skirt. Many men also feel more comfortable in their wrap around 'skirts' than trousers. It is illegal for men not to wear a shirt in public places. Brief attire is considered offensive to Tongans, unless it is on the beach. .

Hi Friends : Pacific Missions TripThe trip to Tonga is looking very exciting. We have a great team lined up and a lot of opportunity. This trip we are running a men's and a women's conference, leadership seminars with local pastors, TV shows and radio broadcasts. Along side meeting with the Chamber of Commerce and the installation of the first national computer system in the primary schools. (and a little deep sea fishing ;-)). The team will be preaching in churches on the main Island and in out lying Islands &endash; should be a real experience for some!!
We still do need some help with the installation and provision of computers for the schools. We have had pledges of $2500 come in and if you are interested in contributing to placing computers in the primary schools &endash; allowing our gift to make way for us &endash; then please email me personally about it so we can discuss what needs to happen. We need another $3500 to cover all the cost involved. Please make any checks out to Next Foundation but PLEASE indicate somewhere that they are for the school computers so we can designate the funds accordingly.
After Tonga we are heading in to New Zealand for a weekend men's meeting and church ministry. A great way to end out the trip.
As always THANKS TO OUR PARTNERS .... John King ... www.nextfoundation.org
