WEB MEDIA SCHOOL session 34 -OUTLOOK EXPRESS (MAC)
Address AutoComplete Type an address in a new message, and Microsoft Outlook Express shows names and addresses of contacts in your Address Book that match, whether you type a first name, last name, nickname, or e-mail address.
Smart attachments In the Attachments pane, located just below the addressing window, you can add and remove file attachments, in addition to changing the attachment settings. By default, Outlook Express encodes attachments using AppleDouble format, which can be read by both Macintosh and Windows operating systems alike.
In the Preview pane, you can easily read e-mail without opening a separate message window. One Key Read -Press the spacebar to scroll through a message. At the end of the message, press the spacebar again to move to the next unread message.
Managing your Address Book The Outlook Express Address Book has custom fields you can use to add any information you want, such as birthdays or names of spouses. The Address Book is also tightly integrated with messaging; for example, when you address a message, you automatically have access to addresses in your Address Book. And when you receive a message from someone, you can easily add the sender's address to your Address Book.
Easy importing You can import messages, contacts, rules, signatures, and account information from several other e-mail programs, as well as from earlier versions of Outlook Express.
About addressing messages -You can address a message by typing a valid e-mail address on the To tab and other address tabs in the address window:
The To tab lists e-mail addresses of people the message is principally intended for.The Cc tab lists e-mail addresses of recipients who are not the principal addressees. For example, you might want to send a copy of a message to your manager by including him or her as a Cc recipient. The Bcc tab lists e-mail addresses of recipients you want to receive the message without other recipients' knowledge. Names and addresses of Bcc recipients don't appear in the message header
In your Address Book, you don't need to look up the address; When you start typing a name or e-mail address on the To, Cc, or Bcc tab of the address window, a menu appears that lists names and addresses in your Address Book that match the letters you have typed. As you type more letters, the list is updated to show only names that still match. You can click the correct recipient as soon as you see it on the list. You can also look up people in your default directory service when you address the message. Just type the person's name, and then click Check Names.
Address a message On the To tab, do one of the following:To send the message to a person or group in your Address Book, type the first few letters of the name, and then click the appropriate name on the pop-up menu. To send the message to someone who is not in your Address Book, type the person's e-mail address &emdash;holyword@gte.net - for example. To add additional recipients, click Add, and then repeat step 1. To send copies of the message to other recipients, click the Cc or Bcc tabs, and then enter each recipient's e-mail address -Press RETURN.To address the message to an additional recipient after the address window is closed, click To, Cc, or Bcc, and then add the recipient. You can also add a recipient by doing one or both of the following Drag an entry from the Address Book to the To, Cc, or Bcc box in a message. Drag an e-mail address from another message or document to the To, Cc, or Bcc box in a message.
